Canon caught red-handed, again. Canon wants to sell you overpriced $4K “supercamera” that does it all, albeit with video time limitation, without cannibalizing its upcoming $8K video camera that does not have time limitation. $4k vs $8K. Canon EOS R5, the camera that has been touted as “no reservations held”, has been artificially crippled as well. Canon just can’t get over their crippleware addiction.
Canon can still fix the situation by releasing firmware update.
As a still photographer I don’t really care about overheating problem but IMHO R5 is grossly overpriced. As a high resolution camera Sony A7R 3 (or A7r 4) is still the better value. R6 is overpriced too, 20 MP just do not cut it. There was a reason that Sony Electronics and not Canon became AP’s exclusive global imaging provider for photo and video journalism. Canon, please stop playing games. Firmware update for R5 and price drop to $3K will check all boxes for many photographers and videographers.
