The EOS R is a 30 megapixel (6720 x 4480) Full Frame camera. If you use an adapter to mount an APS-C crop lens like the EF-S 10-22, the camera will automatically turn into a 11.6 megapixel (4176x2784) crop camera (and 10.1MP on the EOS RP). There is no loss of image quality whatsoever when you use EF lenses with an adaptor on RF mount. Quite the opposite - I found that when I use EF lens with adapter on Canon EOS R the yield of usable images in any shooting situation has improved doe to better autofocusing. Today’s lenses and cameras are so good that you can start with mediocre lens on mediocre camera and still get excellent photos. I’d be careful using “mediocre” adjective to both cameras and lenses. It depends on what you do. If you do street photography at evening/night time then 50mm F1.4 on full frame camera is your thing. If you engage in portrait photography then 85mm F1.8 on full frame is irreplaceable.
